One of the quintessential 80s films, The Goonies (1985) is an entertaining ride that's certainly funny at times but suffers from some odd tonal shifts that mean one moment gangsters are literally about to blend a child's hand and the next a screaming deformed man is swinging in on a rope wearing a superman shirt and suspenders. It's this weird mix of the oddly serious and almost sinister, at times (including a number of dead bodies etc) with the slapstick - sometimes downright silly - and sentimental that hinders this flick a bit. It's too childish for adults, yet too adult for children. Perhaps, however, that's why it was so loved in the first place. 7/10.

It brings back memories of what it was like to be a kid- of getting into mischief and hanging out with your friends. The characters in "The Goonies" grow on you and you see them as real, not fictional- as they portray their parts in a way that any kid (or any adult who has even a spark of childhood nostalgia) can relate to. This movie will never grow old to me- it will remain a classic forever.
